You are Never too Young to Lead and Make a Difference

Installation, Kosovo, 2019

On 11th October, International Day of the Girl Child, Alketa, in collaboration with UN Women, publicly showcased the potential of young women and girls through an empowering public artwork. This artwork used the power of activism to accelerate social change through engaging women and girls in every step of the artwork’s creation.

Considering 2019’s International Day of the Girl Child theme “GirlForce: Unscripted and Unstoppable,” this activity amplified the voices of young women and girls in leading and fostering a world that is relevant for them and future generations.

The public artwork invited young women and girls to stand up for their rights and break the boundaries posed by stereotypes. It created opportunities for girls’ voice to be heard on several levels, platforms and safe spaces.

The public artwork included a mural with the saying “You are never too young to lead and bring justice” in the form of a stamp. This saying is written on the wall using 100 different stamps made of 100 quotes from girls from different communities across Kosovo, which will be sent previously to UN Women. Using a pink stamp to create this mural of quotes and sayings symbolised an unchangeable fact, such as the vast potential of women and girls in Kosovo, as well as societal gender stereotypes.
